The Institute for Southern Studies and Facing South are looking for energetic and engaged students for our 2019 Summer Internship Program. The Institute internship is ideal for writers, journalists and researchers with a passion for advancing issues of democracy and social justice in the South. Internships are paid and offer a great opportunity to get hands-on media and research experience that can make a difference. These Internship Programs are open to students from any year and with any major, and they may choose a placement in one of 9 career fields: Banking & Financial services; Consulting & Professional services; Law & Politics; Technology & Engineering; Marketing, Advertising & PR; Media, Entertainment & Journalism; Art, Fashion & Design; Start-ups & Entrepreneurship; Charities, NFPs & NGOs. Programs are available in 9 locations: London, Paris, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco These Summer programs continue to fill at a record rate, and we will be closing applications to Washington D.C., Miami, Chicago and San Francisco at midnight on Sunday the 17th of March. Any students who are interested in those cities should apply now to avoid disappointment. This year has been the first year of the Student Aid scheme, which grants up to $3,263 to students enrolling in one of our programs. All students are eligible for some aid, with 100% of students so far receiving over $1000 towards a City Internships Program of their choice. Diversifying Art Museum Leadership Initiative (DAMLI) Paid InternshipThe Education Department will offer up to two paid internships to encourage greater participation of groups who are currently underrepresented in the museum field. Recipients will receive a $1,500 stipend and will be scheduled for 8-10 hours per week for 12-14 weeks during fall or spring semesters (for a total of 120 hours, unless more are required for academic credit). Candidates applying for this paid opportunity should review the information about and include in their written statement how they would contribute a diverse perspective to the museum and to the field.
