Elizabeth R. Williams is Assistant Professor of History at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She received her Ph.D. from Georgetown University. Her research focuses on questions of expertise, environment, and empire in the eastern Mediterranean from the late nineteenth century through the early twentieth century, covering both the Ottoman and French mandate periods. Most recently her work has been supported by an eleven-month Kluge Fellowship at the Library of Congress. Her book, States of Cultivation: Imperial Transition and Scientific Agriculture in the Eastern Mediterranean, will be published with Stanford University Press in the summer of 2023.
